Loose rubber tread blamed for injuries

NEW ORLEANS – A tenant is suing two defendants, alleging a defective stair component caused him to fall.

Lawrence Janusa filed a lawsuit Jan. 12 against Covington Specialty Insurance Company and The Heritage Lane Condominium Association Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Janusa was exiting his residence at 36 Heritage Lane, on July 30, 2016, when he fell due to a loose rubber stair tread. The fall led to the plaintiff suffering injuries, the suit says.

The defendant is accused of failing to ensure the stairs were in a safe condition, failing to warn of the danger and overall negligence.

Janusa seeks seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. He is represented by attorney Lauren Pilie of Morris Bart LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.
