Poydras Home alleged to have terminated nursing director because of taking medical leave

Wrongful term 10

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish woman formerly employed as a director of nursing and vice president of health care alleges she was wrongfully terminated for taking a medical leave.

Maria Albright filed a complaint on Jan. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Poydras Home alleging that the former employer violated the Louisiana Employment Discrimination Law and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was frequently subjected to harassment and gender discrimination from the defendant's CEO. The suit states the CEO discouraged the plaintiff for exercising her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act to take time off to treat breast cancer. The plaintiff claims she was terminated in June 2016 without reason or justification.

The plaintiff holds Poydras Home responsible because the defendant allegedly created, tolerated and condoned pervasive conduct and intentionally discriminated against her on the basis of her sex.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, punitive and liquidated damages, prejudgment and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, expenses and costs, and all other relief as the court deems necessary and proper. She is represented by Christopher L. Williams of Williams Litigation LLC in New Orleans.
