Cardiologist alleges hospital administrators violated his civil rights

Medical malpractice 02

NEW ORLEANS — A cardiologist is suing Jefferson Parish hospital administrators, alleging violation of his civil rights.

Dr. Bahram Zamanian filed a complaint Feb. 7 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Jefferson Parish Hospital Service District No. 2 and the parish of Jefferson, doing business as East Jefferson General Hospital, alleging violation of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, as a result of losing his hospital privileges,  Zamanian's ability to continue to practice medicine and to earn a living to support himself and his family has been substantively impaired. The suit says he has also suffered injury to his professional reputation, mental anguish, humiliation and emotional distress.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants summarily suspended his practice and East Jefferson General Hospital privileges on Feb. 16, 2011, failed to comply with its own bylaws and denied Zamanian the opportunity to be heard before a fair and impartial decision-maker.

Zamanian seeks trial by jury, actual, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs and all other equitable relief. He is represented by attorney Al J. Robert, Jr. of Law Office of Al J. Robert, Jr. LLC in New Orleans.
