GRETNA – An Orleans Parish man is suing Walmart, alleging the company has hurt his reputation with false comments.

Mumson W. Fletcher of Orleans Parish filed a suit Feb. 21 against Kesarah Ingram, and or Walmart Stores, in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging libel and slander.

According to the claim, on Feb .16, 2016, Walmart made libelous and slanderous accusations against Fletcher in the presence of hundreds of customers, alleging the plaintiff was a thief and was going to jail.

The suit says the defendant then took the liberty of distributing a photo of the plaintiff, along with the lies, in nearby Walmart stores. Police officer David Roddy,  the lawsuit states, who had seen or heard the rumors, then tried to arrest Fletcher and the plaintiff resisted.

The plaintiff says he was forced into trial for a crime that he was wrongfully accused of and was caused to suffer medical complications. Having no ability to prepare a defense, the suit says, Fletcher was considered guilty and had to pay fines, attend therapy classes and subjected to probation.

Fletcher seeks damages and court costs. He is representing himself.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 769210.
