Family blames motorist for causing crash

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish family is suing a motorist, alleging her negligence caused a crash.

Jesus Gonzalez and Sury Gonzalez, individually and as legal tutor of their minor children, filed a lawsuit Feb. 13 against Barbara F. Ward and USAA Casualty Insurance Company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Sury Gonzalez was driving her vehicle Feb. 26, 2016, on General De Gaulle Drive in Orleans Parish. The suit states Gonzalez's minor children were passengers in the car when Ward's vehicle struck the plaintiff's car on the right rear side, failing to to yield while merging.

The lawsuit states the plaintiff and her minor children suffered physical injuries from the impact.

Ward is accused of negligently failing to yield for the plaintiff, failing to observe traffic patterns and operating the vehicle in a reckless manner.

The plaintiffs seek all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. They are represented by attorneys Romualdo Gonzalez and Max Koeck IV of Braden, Gonzalez & Associates in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
