Physician alleges student defamed him

NEW ORLEANS – A doctor is suing a former medical school student, alleging she defamed him with derogatory remarks.

Dr. Jonathan Jones filed a lawsuit Feb. 27 against Eleanore Knox in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging defamation.

According to the complaint, Jones was a supervising physician at the Touro Hospital and Knox was a student. The suit states that while Knox was in rotation at the hospital, she made various accusations against the plaintiff's integrity as a doctor and his overall character.

Knox is accused of defamation through knowingly injuring the Jones' reputation, failing to minimize damages and failing to make truthful statements about the plaintiff.

Jones seeks reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. He is represented by attorney Russel Stegeman of Stegeman & Associates in Covington.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
