Family blames day camp for disabled child's fall

GRETNA – A family is suing a day camp, alleging its negligence caused injuries to their disabled child.  

Richard Roniger, Mary Lu Roniger, individually and Richard Roniger on behalf of his disabled child, filed a suit March 7 against Granite State Insurance Company, The United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater New Orleans and Janine Rome in 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, on March 22, 2016, the plaintiffs' child was at a day camp 100 Central Ave., Jefferson Parish. The suit states Rome was attempting to transfer the plaintiffs' child from his wheelchair to a mobility-assist seat but caused the child to fall on his face and suffer injuries.

The defendants are accused of negligently failing to properly supervise the disabled child, failing to use the appropriate level of care in the moving of the individual and overall acts of negligence. 

The Ronigers seek all damages, attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by attorneys Richard D. Roniger II, Robert P. Charbonnet Jr., James S. Rees IV of Charbonnet Law Firm LLC in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 769688.
