Bus driver blames taxi operator for crash

GRETNA – A St. John the Baptist Parish woman is suing a taxi driver, alleging his negligence caused a crash with a shuttle bus she was driving.

Helena Schnyder filed a suit March 2 against Fontain Smith, ABC Insurance Company, Cajun Taxi LLC and American Service Insurance Company Inc. in 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, Schnyder was driving a shuttle bus April 1, 2016, at New Orleans International Airport. The suit states Smith failed to yield while driving a taxi and struck the rear of the shuttle. The resulting crash, the lawsuit states, caused damages to Schnyder's cervical and lumbar spine.

Smith is accused of negligently failing to yield, failing to drive in a responsible and safe manner and overall negligence and recklessness.

Schnyder seeks reasonable damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Tomy J. Acosta of LaPlace.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
