Injured city worker sues companies, alleging negligence

NEW ORLEANS – A city employee is seeking damages after he was injured at a construction site.

Preston Mills filed a lawsuit March 2 against Re New Orleans Property Management LLC and Tuna Construction LLC in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is a resident of Orleans Parish who was injured on June 28, 2016. The city of New Orleans had contracted the defendant to complete certain repairs at the Sign & Signal Shop. The plaintiff was caused injury when he stepped into a hole that the defendants had created and not clearly marked, the complaint said. The fall caused the plaintiff to suffer injuries to his leg, knee, shoulder, elbow, upper arm and left triceps.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to mark the opening in a clear way, failing to cover the hole and overall negligence.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney W. Gregory Merritt of Silbert, Garon, Pitre & Friedman in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher Bruno.
