University sues over unpaid balance

NEW ORLEANS – Southern University is seeking damages for sums due through a garnishment of funds or wages.

Southern University Board of Supervisors, through Southern University- New Orleans, filed a lawsuit March 6 against Taren J. Ellis, and University Medical Center Management Corp. as garnishee, in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging sums due.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is owed funds by the defendant totaling $395 plus interest and fees. The plaintiff contends that the garnishee is the employee of the defendant or owes the defendant funds. The plaintiff is seeking garnishment of the funds due. The overall balance of the statement is $1,593.59.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Rokeya Morris of the Louisiana Department of Justice in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Melvin Zeno.
