Sears sued after customer fell in Gretna store

GRETNA – A man is seeking damages after he slipped and fell in a Sears store.

Kenneth Johns filed a suit March 13 against Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff, a resident of Jefferson Parish, was at a Sears store in Gretna on June 18, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff slipped and fell on a dangerous substance when coming out of a store elevator.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to clean the store and failing to warn of the potential for danger.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by James C. Rather Jr., of Sutton, Alker & Rather LLC in Mandeville.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
