NEW ORLEANS – A Lafourche Parish man alleges he was injured because of exposure to crude oil and dispersants.

Levy Brunet filed a complaint on March 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against BP PLC, BP Exploration and Production Inc. and BP America Production Co. Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May 2010,  defendants chartered plaintiff’s vessel in the Vessel of Opportunity Program to help with cleanup from the Deepwater Horizon. As a result of his job responsibilities, the suit states the plaintiff was exposed to massive quantities of crude oil, crude oil vapors and dispersants which caused him to sustain significant personal injuries and suffer physical and mental pain, loss of income, depression and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds BP PLC, BP Exploration and Production Inc. and BP America Production Co. Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to ensure that all vessel crews engaged in oil spill response activities received all necessary training and all necessary protective equipment for such activities.

The plaintiff  seeks compensatory, punitive, equitable, general and specific damages and all other relief the court deems just and appropriate. He is represented by Soren E. Gisleson, Stephen J. Herman, James C. Klick and Joseph E. Cain of Herman Herman & Katz LLC in New Orleans.
