Woman's relatives seek $5 million in damages over allegations of wrongful death

Medical malpractice 07

LAFAYETTE – The surviving spouse and children of a woman allege a federal health care facility breached a standard of care in the woman's treatment.

Wilbert Bruno, Peachlynn Thomas and Kennan Thomas, individually and on behalf of Lucille Bruno, deceased filed a complaint on April 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against United States of America alleging medical malpractice and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Lucille Bruno presented to the Southwest Primary Healthcare, which is operated by the defendant, in October 2013 for a cyst above her right breast. The suit states that nurse practitioner that saw her postponed an order for a breast ultrasound without explanation and told the decedent to follow up in six months. The suit states Lucille Bruno died on Dec. 7, 2016, due to metastatic disease.

The plaintiffs hold United States of America responsible because its employees allegedly breached a standard of care.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages in an amount of $5 million, plus costs of these proceedings and all other general and equitable relief. They are represented by Kara Hadican Samuels of Kara Hadican Samuels & Associates LLC in New Orleans.
