GRETNA – A woman is being sued after she allegedly failed to use funds for an elevation project.
The State of Louisiana, Division of Administration, Office of Community Development-Disaster Recovery Unit filed a suit April 24 against Marie Elizabeth Coalwell of Jefferson Parish in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging sums due.
According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking payment for a home elevation that was never proven to be executed. The suit states that the defendant was given funds for an elevation of a home, following Hurricane Katrina. The defendant failed to use the funds provided to complete the elevation of the home, according to the claim. The plaintiff is seeking repayment of the sums.
The defendant is accused of failing to show she used the funds as intended.
The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Mary Catherine Cali of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.
