NEW ORLEANS – A woman alleges she was injured because of the state of the sidewalk outside of a New Orleans post office.

Michele I. Hayes filed a complaint on April 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the United States of America alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 4, 2014, she was walking along the sidewalk of Girod Street, adjacent to the United States Postal Service main office, and sustained injuries when she tripped and fell on the uneven, defective sidewalk. The plaintiff holds United States of America responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate warning of the damage of the sidewalk and failed to maintain it.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks all losses and damages, plus interest, cost of these proceedings and all other general and equitable relief. She is represented by Wanda Anderson of Leefe, Gibbs, Sullivan & Dupre LLC in Metairie.
