City of Gretna accused of failing to repair damaged pavement

GRETNA – An individual is seeking damages for a trip and fall.

Antoine Levi Williams filed a suit May 3 against the city of Gretna, Gretna Mayor Belinda Constant (in her official capacity) and Director of Public Works Danny Lasyone (in his official capacity) in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was parked in front of A.J. Cambre Office Supplies at 125 Huey P. Long Ave., Gretna on May 4, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that aa the plaintiff was exiting his car, he tripped and fell on damaged pavement and fractured his left ankle. That portion of the pavement should have been repaired but was not, according to the suit.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to repair the portion of pavement, failing to inspect the situation and ensure it was safe and failing to warn of the potential for danger.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs and is represented by the Law Office of Miguel A. Elias in Kenner.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
