NEW ORLEANS – A Texas man alleges he was injured while working on a barge owned by two Houma companies.

Juan Manuel Trevino filed a complaint on May 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Cross Barge Services LTD and Cross Group Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 24, 2014, he was working aboard defendants' Crossmar 14 barge when he sustained serious, painful and permanent injuries, while lifting and fitting a heavy pipe without assistance. The suit states the plaintiff underwent a cervical fusion and a right shoulder rotator cuff repair surgery as a result of the injury.

The plaintiff holds Cross Barge Services LTD and Cross Group Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to provide assistance and consciously chose to work short-handed and in a hurried manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for his damages, harms and losses; with legal interest; costs of these proceedings; and all other general and equitable relief. He is represented by Terrence J. Lestelle, Andreas S. Lestelle and Richard M. Morgan of Lestelle & Lestelle APLC in Metairie.
