NEW ORLEANS – A Tangipahoa Parish mother has filed a suit against the U.S. Coast Guard after the drowning death of her teen son at Grand Isle State Park.

Cabrina Robertson, individually and on behalf of Travon Robertson, filed a complaint on May 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against United States Coast Guard and unknown officers alleging that they failed to timely dispatch a rescue helicopter.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 24, 2015, plaintiff's minor son Travon Robertson was swimming at the beach of the Grand Isle State Park when he was pulled by the strong undercurrent. The suit states that 9-1-1 was called and that for several minutes beach patrons, friends and family members were unsuccessful in their attempts to rescue him. Plaintiff's minor son died, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds United States Coast Guard and unknown officers responsible because the defendant allegedly refused or failed to send a helicopter to the drowning scene and improperly handled a rescue situation, failed to maintain a proper chain of command to facilitate the timely use of a helicopter, and other alleged breaches of duty.

The plaintiff seeks judgment finding the defendants liable for all damages, plus interest and all other general and equitable relief this court deems appropriate. She is represented by Gregory Webb of Gregory Webb, Attorney at Law in Baton Rouge.
