NEW ORLEANS – A St. Tammany Parish man has filed a suit against BP over alleged damages incurred as a result of the Deepwater Horizon spill.

Romy F. Berel III filed a complaint on June 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against BP Exploration & Production Inc., BP America Production Co., BP PLC, et al. citing the Oil Pollution Act.

According to the complaint, plaintiff is an owner of Ultra Wireline Services LLC of Belle Chase, which regularly provided support and services to the oil and gas industry. The plaintiff alleges that he was not compensated for the economic injury, damage and/or losses he sustained from the BP Oil Spill that occurred on April 20, 2010. The plaintiff holds BP Exploration & Production Inc., BP America Production Co., BP PLC, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly either denied plaintiff’s claim for damages or failed to accept or respond within 90 days.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, prejudgment and post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees, costs of litigation and such other and further relief. He is represented by Lawrence J. Centola III and Christopher H. Carbine of Martzell, Bickford & Centola in New Orleans.
