Jefferson Parish resident faults city of Gretna for fall

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish resident is seeking damages for a fall that was allegedly caused by an improperly sized sewer drain cover.

Francis Emilien filed a suit June 23 against the city of Gretna and Sewarage and Water Board of New Orleans in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place June 24, 2016. The suit states that the plaintiff tripped and fell into a hole after an incorrectly sized lid was placed on a sewer drain. The plaintiff claims she suffered physical injuries from the fall.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to exercise proper caution, failing to warn of the danger and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John D. Sileo in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
