NEW ORLEANS – A cook aboard a vessel alleges she was injured in a fall caused by a congested stairwell.

Susan Riedlinger filed a complaint on June 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Offshore Service Vessels LLC, Galliano Marine Service LLC and Chevron USA Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 13, she was employed as a cook aboard a vessel owned and/or operated by the defendants when she tripped on an obscured luggage handle and fell. The plaintiff alleges she sustained injuries to her knee and ACL that resulted in physical and mental pain, medical expenses and loss of earning capacity and enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff holds Offshore Service Vessels LLC, Galliano Marine Service LLC and Chevron USA Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently permitted the stairwell to become cluttered and congested with the crews' luggage.

The plaintiff seeks damages in an amount sufficient to adequately compensate plaintiff's damages, with legal interest, costs of this suit and for all further general and equitable relief. She is represented by Ronna M. Steele of The Maritime Law Center in Gretna.
