Woman claims ceiling at New Orleans property fell on her, causing injuries

NEW ORLEANS – A woman is seeking damages, claiming part of a defective ceiling fell on her.

Marlene Moore filed a lawsuit against Essential Realty LLC, 3Boys Investments LLC and XYZ Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence. 

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place Aug. 3, 2016, at 2223 Desire St., New Orleans. The suit states that the property the plaintiff was renting from the defendant was damaged and a piece of sheetrock fell from the ceiling and struck her on the head, back and shoulder, resulting in injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to warn of danger, maintain the property or take other necessary actions to protect the plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Richard L. Olivier of Huber, Slack, Thomas & Marcelle LLP in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
