Louisiana Disaster Recovery Unit looks to recover $135,000 in repair funds

GRETNA –The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Unit filed a lawsuit to recover $135,000 allegedly due on a grant.

The State of Louisiana Division of Administration, Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a lawsuit July 5 against Georgia Michelle Baker in the 24th Judicial District Court.

According to the complaint, the defendant failed to pay back a grant that was given to repair a property that sustained hurricane damage in 2005. The grant was required to be repaid if the property owner did not meet specified conditions within three years of receiving the funds.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney's fees and court costs. It is represented by John Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael Mentz.
