The court case, Jackson's Landing versus Garnisha Phillips, was filed in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal in the State of Louisiana with the case ID No. 2023-CA-0783. The appeal, dated April 09, 2024, was made by appellant Madeleine Vidger against a judgment made on July 10, 2023.

The lawsuit revolves around Ms. Vidger's contempt of court and ordered payment of fees. As an attorney for Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, she represented a defendant in an eviction proceeding. On June 20, 2023, she filed two exceptions of prematurity and a motion to continue the eviction hearing due to the pro se plaintiff's failure to provide notices of lease violations.

Despite the trial court denying her motion and proceeding with the eviction without receiving the notices by late afternoon, Ms. Vidger expressed her frustration which led to a contemptuous exchange with the court. She insisted that she could not adequately represent her client without actual notices and complained about delays due to plaintiff's lack of preparation.

Ms. Vidger seeks review of this judgment arguing that it is unjust as she was merely advocating zealously for her client. Her counsel includes Dane S. Ciolino and Clare S. Roubion from Louisiana Legal Ethics LLC.
