In the United States District Court, Western District of Louisiana, Lori Hurst has filed a civil action (Case 6:24-cv-00570-DCJ-CBW) against Target Corporation of Minnesota on April 30, 2024. The lawsuit revolves around an incident that took place at a Target store in Lafayette, Louisiana, where Hurst alleges she was seriously injured due to the negligence of the retail giant.

Hurst's lawyer claims that while shopping at the Target store located at 4313 Ambassador Caffery Parkway on May 22, 2023, she slipped on a pool of congealed shampoo left unattended on the floor. This resulted in severe hip pain and a loud popping sound. In another instance during the same visit, Hurst was struck on the back of her head by a large pack of paper towels that fell from an overhead shelf.

The plaintiff argues that these incidents have caused her significant injuries requiring medical attention and treatment. She alleges loss of wages and earning capacity due to disability from performing her usual duties. The complaint asserts that Target violated Louisiana Revised Statutes 9:2800.6 and Louisiana Civil Code articles 2316 and 2320 by failing to maintain safe shopping conditions.

Hurst is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 for her injuries under diversity jurisdiction (28 U.S.C. sec. 1332). The court case will be presided over by a yet-to-be-named judge.
