Handyman sues after patio allegedly collapses on him while working on home

GRETNA – A handyman is suing  local homeowner alleging he was injured when a patio collapsed on him as he was working in her home.

Gary Gabriel filed suit against Rita Johnson and North Light Specialty Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 7.

Gabriel alleges he was invited to Johnson’s home located at 827 Kathy St. in Gretna on May 9, 2014 to perform maintenance on her home. The plaintiff contends he was working on the home when a portion of the patio collapsed on top of him. Gabriel asserts he suffered serious and painful injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly inspect the area, failing to warn of the defective condition, failing to maintain the area, creating and maintaining a defect and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, permanent damage, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.

Gabriel is represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
