GRETNA – A dental clinic is suing an employee for allegedly stealing more than $132,000.

Barre Dental Care Inc. filed suit against Nadieska Giron in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 11.

Barre Dental Care Inc. asserts it hired Giron on Feb. 16, 2009 to serve as a front desk clerk and receptionist for the dental clinic. The plaintiff claims that as part of her job duties the defendant had access to the business checking account and deposits and that in July 2014 irregularities in the accounting were discovered. Barre Dental Care Inc. alleges after an investigation it was discovered that Giron routinely took cash payments from customers and pocketed the money.

The plaintiff contends that over the course of her employment Giron misappropriated $132,657.13 to which she pled guilty in criminal court on Jan. 28, 2015. As part of the criminal conviction Giron was supposed to repay the amount she stole, but has failed to do so, the suit claims.

The defendant is accused of conversion and fraud.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for misappropriated funds, loss of profits, business interruption, loss of business opportunities, loss of business income, loss of investment income, loss of business reputation, tax, penalties, interest, reimbursement of salary, compensation, attorney’s fees, expert fees and prejudgment interests.

Barre Dental Care Inc. is represented by Stephen K. Conroy of the Metairie-based Conroy Law Firm PLC.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.

Case no. 749-560.
