Chef Menteur's hearing on new trial postponed until July 23

Landrieu

A motion hearing for a new trial set for June 18 was continued until July 23 because the plaintiffs who filed the motion did not serve the defendants.

Chef Menteur Land Company Ltd. is suing St. Bernard Parish residents Gary and Glenn Sandrock, Eugene Molinary Jr., Bessy Molinary and Gene Molinary Construction Co. for allegedly dumping solid waste containing asbestos on Chef Menteur's land, which had been leased to the Sandrocks in May 1996.

New Orleans attorney Robert Barnett is representing the plaintiffs. New Orleans attorney Rene Curry Jr. is acting as defense counsel.

The case went to a two-day bench trial and judgment was issued on Feb. 11, but Chef Menteur was not satisfied with Judge Madeline Landrieu's ruling and filed a motion for limited new trial and rule to show cause why costs should not be taxed.

The defense counsel filed a memorandum in opposition of the motion.
