An Orleans Parish couple is suing an insurance company for property damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Darryl and Delando Parker, on behalf of the estate of Miriam Parker, filed a lawsuit against St. Paul's/Travelers Insurance Company Aug. 26 in Orleans Parish District Court.

The lawsuit states the Parkers, who jointly own a house on Monroe Street, had the property insured by the defendant when Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005. The couple says the home was damaged by wind, water and looting.

Some time later, the Parkers say agents representing St. Paul's/Travelers Insurance inspected the house for the purpose of preparing an estimate of damage that would be covered under their policy.

The Parkers say they were never reimbursed for the damage caused by the hurricane. They are seeking unspecified damages, court costs and attorney fees.

The Parkers, who are representing themselves, demand a jury trial.
