A seaman is suing his employer after he received serious injuries when the vessel he was aboard collided into another vessel.
Raymond Lett filed suit against Omega Protein Corp. and F/V Oyster Bayou on Oct. 1 in federal court in New Orleans.
The collision occurred on June 17, 2009 as Lett was working aboard the defendant's fishing vessel. He states he sustained serious injuries when the vessel he was aboard collided into another vessel.
The defendant is accused of operating the vessel with an inadequate crew and for failing to properly supervise the crew, properly train their employees, provide adequate safety equipment and safely operate their vessel.
The plaintiff is seeking damages for physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, medical expenses, maintenance and cure, punitive damages, interest, attorneys' fees and court costs.
Lett is represented by Robert P. Wynee, Michael. E. Pierce and Christopher M. Spain of Arnold & Itkin in Houston. Jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance is assigned to the case.
