Rouse's customer sues over trip on wire

A New Orleans woman is suing a local supermarket and a liquor distributor after allegedly hurting herself in the store.

Myra L. Lewis filed the lawsuit against Rouse's Enterprises LLC and it insurer, Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. on Oct. 19 in Orleans Parish District Court. Also named in the suit is Republic National Distributing Company LLC and its insurance provider, Hartford Fire Insurance Co.

Lewis says she walked into a Rouse's Supermarket in Algiers, tripped on an electrical wire and fell to the floor, causing several injuries. According to the complaint, an employee of Republic National Distributing that was in the store promoting its products had put the wire across the floor.

Lewis is asking for an unspecified amount of money from Rouse's, Republic Distributing and its insurance providers to cover the costs of injuries, medical expenses and court fees.

Attorney James B. Guest of Kenner is representing Lewis.
