A New Orleans man claims gender discrimination in a suit filed over a non profit organization's New Orleans Womanspace program.
Jerome G. Alexander filed the suit against Resources for Human Development on Dec. 11 in federal court in New Orleans.
Alexander was hired in February 2006 as an assistant director/clinical coordinator for the defendant, the suit states. He worked with the New Orleans Womanspace program until August 2007, when his employment was terminated.
Alexander claims he was he was told that his supervisor was discussing making the site more woman friendly, the implication being no more male managers, the suit claims.
In the suit, Alexander admits that the he and his supervisor had professional differences.
According to the lawsuit, after he was terminated, his position was filled by a female.
The plaintiff is asking for an award of lost wages, emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs.
Alexander is represented by Metairie attorney J. Courtney Wilson. A jury trial is requested.
