Oil rig worker seeks $950K after slip on anti-freeze

An oil rig worker has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $950,000 after he slipped in anti-freeze and was injured.

Dennis Moreau filed suit against Apache Corp., Wood Group Production Services Inc., Shamrock Management and Professional Services Industries Inc. on Jan. 20 in federal court in New Orleans.

The accident occurred on Nov. 8, 2010 as Moreau was working as a rigger aboard a drilling rig. He states that he was walking down a set of stairs when he slipped on anti-freeze and injured his spine, shoulder and arm.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to provide a safe place to work, failing to provide proper equipment and personnel, failing to warn of the dangerous and unsafe conditions, failing to exercise reasonable care in discovering and correcting unsafe conditions and for failing to properly inspect, maintain and repair the premises. The defendant is also accused of breaching its legally imposed duties of care and of strict liability and premises liability.

At the time of the accident, Moreau was working as a rigger and employed by Fab-Con Inc.

The plaintiff is asking in more than $950,000 in damages for
physical, mental, and emotional pain and suffering, loss of wages, fringe benefits, wage earning capacity, physical disability, medical expenses, interest and court costs.

Moreau is represented by J. Douglas Sunseri and Edward C. Vocke, IV. of Nicaud & Sunseri in Metairie and Robert W. Grant of Grant & Barrow in Gretna.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt is assigned to the case.
