Woman sues apartment complex after slip on puddle

A woman from East Baton Rouge Parish is suing the Peace Lake Towers apartment complex after she slipped on a puddle of water in a bathroom.

Baton Rouge attorney Timothy Martinez filed the lawsuit on behalf of Chantel Venable on June 3 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

The lawsuit claims the accident happened in March when Venable was visiting a resident in the facility.

The suit claims "that at all times prior to her slip and fall accident the water on the floor created an area of slick, slippery footing, constituting and unreasonable risk of harm to persons walking in and around the area."

Venable allegedly "suffered significant injuries to her person" as a result of the Peace Lake's "acts of negligence in the management, maintenance and supervision of the premises," the suit claims.

Peace Lake failed to "use reasonable and ordinary methods to keep the premises in a reasonably safe" and failed "to warn plaintiff of unreasonably dangerous conditions," among other charges.

Among the damages listed include mental pain, anguish and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, as well as medical bills and lost wages.

Orleans Parish Chief Judge Lloyd Medley has been assigned this case.
