A racial and gender discrimination lawsuit has been filed against National Vision Inc. d/b/a America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses over allegations that a Slidell store manager harassed an employee.

Monica McKevitt claims she was subjected to a hostile work environment, according to the suit filed July 18 in federal court in New Orleans.

McKevitt claims she reported the alleged behavior, but that she was "constructively discharged" from her position in February 2010. She states that any "reasonably person subjected to such an environment without a proper response from her employer, would have felt compelled to resign."

She is seeking damages for pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish, loss of reputation, embarrassment and humiliation, back pay, interest, bonuses, pension, lost benefits, front pay, punitive damages and attorney's fees.

McKevitt is represented by James L. Arruebarrena and Rachel Martin-Decklemann.

U.S. District Judge Ivan L. R. Lemelle is assigned to the case.
