A New Orleans man is claiming medical malpractice against the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic and one of its doctors in a civil suit filed July 20 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.
Malcolm Smith claims he "sustained traumatic injury to his anterior teeth and existing prosthetics" as a result of Jones' negligence while Smith was being operated on for prostate cancer.
Metairie attorney Anthony Glorioso filed the lawsuit.
The suit claims that Tulane and Dr. Lydia Jones breached the "standard of care required of physicians" and failed to "provide the claimant with adequate information in order to allow him to make an informed intelligent decision concerning treatment."
The suit claims Smith suffered medical expenses and physical and mental pain and suffering "as a result of substandard care."
The suit states that a medical review panel ruled against Smith's claims in April.
The suit does not specify and amount of damages.
Orleans Parish Judge Robin Giarusso has been assigned this case.
