A Houma Target store is being sued by a shopper who claims she suffered a back injury during a slip and fall incident.

Marie Verdin filed suit against Target Corporate Services Inc. on July 14 in Terrebonne Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Aug. 25.

The alleged incident occurred on Oct. 18, 2010. Verdin states she injured her back when she slipped and fell in a liquid substance in an aisle in the store.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to properly inspect the area where the accident occurred, failing to properly maintain and inspect and clean the premises, failing to warn of this unreasonably dangerous condition and failing to use reasonable and prudent care under the circumstances.

Verdin is seeking damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, lost wages, and loss of earning capacity, interest and court costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Metairie attorney A. J. Rebennack.

U.S. District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman is assigned to the case.
