An Hispanic worker has filed a discrimination lawsuit after she was allegedly referred to as an illegal immigrant by a co-worker.
Maria C. Griffith filed suit against Strategic Technology Institute Inc. on Sept. 23 in federal court in New Orleans.
Griffith began working for the defendant in January 2008 as a data analyst. She states the defendant created and maintained a hostile working environment in or about 2009, which continued until she was terminated over a security clearance matter.
The defendant, though its employees, is accused of making "disparaging, defamatory, and ethnic comments" such as referring to Griffith's husband as a terrorist and referring to Griffith as an illegal immigrant.
Strategic Technology Institute is accused of violating Griffith's civil rights and violating the Louisiana Employment Discrimination Law.
The plaintiff is seeking an award of compensatory damages, attorney's fees and medical expenses.
Griffith is represented by Jacqueline G. Griffith, Charles O. Taylor and Chehardy Sherman in Metairie. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier is assigned to the case.
