Woman sues construction company after workers drop cabinet on her

An Ascension Parish woman is suing a construction company for injuries she allegedly sustained when a cabinet was dropped on her as she held the door open for workers who were transporting it.

Sandra Duplessis filed suit in the 23rd Judicial District Court on Dec. 14 against Shreveport-based D&D Builders.

Duplessis claims she was injured when D&D's workers dropped a cabinet on her when she was holding a door open at a nursing home where she was employed. The suit claims Duplessis held her arm up to protect herself and the impact threw her to floor where she landed on her shoulder. The plaintiff asserts the fall caused her to have spinal injuries and a shoulder injury that required surgery.

The defendants are accused of negligence for not properly training their workers, failing to provide proper equipment for the job, not assigning enough employees to the task, not exercising due care, failing to provide for the safety of others and failing to act reasonably.

An unspecified amount in damages is requested for pain and suffering, mental anguish, residual disability, loss of enjoyment of life, diminished earning ability, medical expenses and lost wages.

Duplessis is being represented Baton Rouge attorney Joseph L. Jolissaint.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Ralph Tureau.
