NEW ORLEANS - A seaman has filed a lawsuit for $1.5 million claiming he is permanently disabled after falling down stairs.

Alex Vittoz filed suit against Gulf Logistics and C&G Boats Inc. on Feb. 24 in federal court in New Orleans.

The alleged incident occurred on Feb. 3, 2012 while Vittoz was employed by the defendant as a seaman aboard the M/V Miss Anna Mae. Vittoz states that he was severely injured in the fall.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to provide Vittoz with a safe place to work, for providing Vittoz with unsafe walkways which lacked the appropriate non-skid material, and for failing to maintain the vessel and keep it in a safe and secure environment.

The plaintiff is asking for damages for permanent disability, physical and mental pain and anguish, loss of bodily function, embarrassment, lost wages, maintenance and cure, attorney's fees and interest.

Vittoz is represented by C. Arlen Braud II, Michelle O. Gallagher and Megan E. Algero of Braud & Gallagher in Mandeville. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo is assigned to the case.
