NEW ORLEANS – A paralyzed New Orleans man is suing a local long-term care facility for improper care he claims to have received.
James Vanderson filed suit on Feb. 23 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against The New Orleans Home for the Incurables and John J. Hainkle, Jr. Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Vanderson claims the defendants moved him periodically to prevent bed sores and that while doing so he received a serious injury. The plaintiff claims his leg was fractured due to an improper moving procedure by the facility's staff. The defendants are accused of dereliction of skill and failure to use appropriate methods of moving, turning or adjusting a quadriplegic.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish and medical expenses.
Vanderson is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney Tamara Kluger Jacobson.
The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
