Partially blind worker files disability and age discrimination suit

Feldman

NEW ORLEANS - A worker who has failing eyesight and is partially blind has filed a disability and age discrimination lawsuit against her former employer after she was terminated from her position.

Cassandra F. Williams filed suit against Career Systems Development Corp. on May 16 in federal court in New Orleans.

Williams was hired by the defendant in June 1995. She worked and developed training policies of the CSDC. She claims she was terminated and replaced with a younger, unqualified employee. At the time of her termination, she was near retiring and suffering from failing eyesight. Williams has been classified as partially blind, a disability under the Americans with Disability Act.

Williams filed a grievance with the Louisiana Apprenticeship Committee and the Louisiana Department of Labor regarding the alleged violations. The Louisiana Department of Labor held a hearing, which determined that the defendant violated company policy.

The defendant is accused of violating the Americans with Disability Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

The plaintiff is asking for an award of compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, and court costs.

Williams is represented by New Orleans attorney William J. Brown.

U.S. District Judge Martin L. C. Feldman is assigned to the case.
