Wrongful death asbestos complaint filed

NEW ORLEANS – A woman is suing numerous asbestos defendants for the death of her husband.

Jacqueline Carron Lowe and the children of George Lowe filed suit against Marathon Oil Co. and others in the New Orleans Civil District Court on June 11. Lowe claims her husband, George Edward Lowe, was exposed to dangerously high levels of asbestos during his employment for Marathon Oil from 1957 until 1995 in various positions and at various sites including Detroit, Mich.; Robinson, Ill.; and Garyville, La.

The plaintiff alleges her husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma in November 2011 and died in December 2011 from complications from the disease.

The defendants are accused of exposing George Lowe to asbestos which resulted in him contracting mesothelioma.

The plaintiffs claim that asbestosis was first diagnosed in Greek slaves over 2,000 years ago and that the defendants should have known the dangers they were exposing others to.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, loss of income, mental anguish, fear of death, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of personal assistance, loss of support to wife and children, loss of consortium, loss of services and loss of companionship.

Lowe is represented by Perry J. Roussel, Jr. of Laplace-based Roussel & Clement.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
