GRETNA – A transportation carrier is being sued for injuries a man allegedly received when he was in the area of a truck that was being unloded.
Patrick Shelby Echols filed suit against Leroy Richardson and ABF Freight System Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 20.
Echols claims he was unloading a crate from an ABF tractor trailer when Richardson removed a heavy steel brace and placed it against the side of the truck. The plaintiff alleges that when secured the crate on his forklift the brace fell and struck him in the mouth and knocked him unconscious. Echols asserts he received severe and permanent personal injuries in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly select and supervise employees, negligently hiring and screening employees, carelessly training employees and carelessly implements safety policies.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, disabilities, medical expenses, scarring and disfigurement and lost wage earning capacity.
