GRETNA – An Avondale woman is suing a shoring company for injuries she claims to have received due to work being done by the company on her home.

Deidra Smoot filed suit against Foundation Elevation and Repair, LLC, Ernest Blackwell, Remodeling Specialists & Professional Shoring and their insurers. Smoot claims she was descending temporary steps that were in place because her home was being raised when the steps broke beneath her and she fell to the ground. The plaintiff claims she received serious injuries to various parts of her body due to the fall.

The defendants are accused of erecting dangerous and defective steps, failing to provide a safe entrance, failing to warn of the danger and failing to have proper and adequate steps in place for entrance into the home.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, loss of income, diminished wage earning capacity, pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life.

Smoot is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Robert T. Hughes.

The case has been assigned to Ellen S. Kovach.

Case no. 716-372.
