DONALDSONVILLE – An Ascension Parish woman is suing the trailer park where she lives claiming a bridge into the park collapsed under her car as she was going over it.

Wendy Richardson filed suit against Homewood Holding, LLC, the Parish of Ascension, Gary Lee Schuetz and their insurers in the 23rd Judicial District Court on July 13.

Richardson claims she is a resident of the park and was entering it from U.S. Highway 61 in Ascension Parish. The plaintiff alleges the park entrance is comprised of a wooden bridge followed by a gravel drive. Richardson asserts she was crossing the bridge when her car's right rear tire broke through the wooden bridge. The plaintiff claims she received serious injuries to her neck, back and shoulder that necessitated spinal surgery.

The defendant is accused of creating an unreasonably dangerous condition in the construction and maintenance of the bridge, failing to properly and adequately construct and maintain the bridge, failing to discover the dangerous condition, allowing the street before the bridge to deteriorate, failing to inspect the site in question, failing to remedy a defective condition and strict liability for the premises defect.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical treatment and loss of earnings in addition to the loss of use of her vehicle, replacement rental and relate costs.

Richardson is represented by attorney Steve Joffrion of Prairieville.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Ralph Tureau.

Case no. 104,236.
