Wal-Mart sued in slip and fall case

GRETNA - A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local Wal-Mart claiming she was injured in a fall on its premises.

Shatoya Leagea filed suit against Wal-Mart Louisiana, LLC, an unknown employee, ABC Cleaning Company, an independent contractor working for Wal-Mart and their insurers.

The suit was filed in the 24th Judicial Court on July 31. Leagea claims she was shopping in the store when she allegedly fell to the ground due to a substance on the floor.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe area for its patrons, failing to provide immediate assistance to plaintiff, failing to train its employees, failing to warn its patrons, reckless endangerment, reckless indifference and intentional tort, including but not limited to assault.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of enjoyment of life, physical disability, pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, disruption of bodily tissues and cells and past, present and future medical expenses.

Leagea is represented by Ron A. Austin and Jeffrey P. Green of Austin & Associates, LLC in Harvey.

Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller is assigned to the case.
