Local super market sued by woman who allegedly slipped in chicken blood

BATON ROUGE – A woman is suing a local grocery store claiming she slipped in chicken blood on the premises and was injured.

Shacquita Tatum filed suit against Hi-Nabor Super Market, an unnamed employee of Hi-Nabor Super Market and Mutual Insurance Company in the 19th Judicial Court on Aug. 2.

On Aug. 20, 2011, the plaintiff alleges that while she was looking at fresh chicken in a freezer at the back of the store, chicken blood from raw chicken stored in a box leaked from an unnamed employee's basket onto the bottom of Tatum's shoes. As Tatum was walking away she alleges she slipped and fell to the floor and injured herself.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a safe premises, creating hazardous conditions by an employee of Hi-Nabor by allowing chicken blood to leak from a box and buggy onto the floor near the meat freezer, failing to warn plaintiff of the unsafe condition and failing to follow store policies and procedures regarding loading the meat freezer.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement and disability, medical expenses and lost wages/earnings.

The plaintiff is represented by Jeff W. Watson of Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers, P.L.C.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Kay Bates.
