Woman sues local Wal-Mart after allegedly being severely injured in fall at store

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local retailer for injuries she claims to have received on its premises.

Sedonia Baker filed suit against Wal-Mart Louisiana, unknown employees, an unknown cleaning company and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 23. Baker claims she was shopping at a local Wal-Mart when she stepped in an unidentified liquid and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges that she received serve injuries in the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonable safe area for its patrons, failing to provide immediate assistance to the plaintiff, failing to train its employees, failing to warn its patrions, reckless endangerment, reckless indifference and intentional tort.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of enjoyment of life, physical disability, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, disruption of bodily tissues and cells and medical expenses.

Baker is represented by Harvey-based attorney Ron A. Austin.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen J. Windhorst.
