Family files wrongful death suit after live wire electrocuted satellite worker

Christopher L. Whittington

BATON ROUGE – The family of a satellite installation employee is suing a couple from Ragely on wrongful death claims after the worker was electrocuted under their home.

James R. Peavy and Joe Gibbs, on behalf of Deborah Peavy, filed a wrongful death suit against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, Joseph M. Mire and Tommie O. Mire in the 19th Judicial Court on Aug. 10.

James and Deborah Peavy are filing on behalf of John D. Peavy. James is John's biological brother and Deborah is John's biological mother.

John was employed with Satellite Country, Inc., which installs satellite television dish systems for Dish Network Service, LLC in Beauregard Parish. On June 4, John was under the Mires' home in a crawl space and was electrocuted.

The defendants are accused of knowing there was a live electrical wire located in the area under their home and failed to have that live current repaired or warn John D. Peavy of potential danger.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for general damages, medical costs and funeral costs as a result of the wrongful death of John D. Peavy.

The plaintiffs are represented by Baton Rouge-based attorney Christopher L. Whittington.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Wilma A. Morvant.

Case no. 614555.
